About Us
 Clifden ecoCamping on the beach
  Ireland's first                          Climate Neutral ecoCampsite.

Our low density ecological Natura Camping is situated on the shores of the beautiful 'Wild Atlantic Way' at the estuary of Streamstown Bay. Unique to the park is an ecosystem called 'Machair', listed as a priority habitat in Ireland under the EU Habitats Directive. This is a highly specialized & complex sand dune habitat system that is confined globally to the north West Coast of Ireland & Scotland. It comprises a flat or gently undulating sandy plain that develops in an oceanic location with a cool, moist climate resulting in rich bio-diversity.

To date eight species of bumblebee occupy this Machair habitat, additionally the ecosystem borders the West Connacht SAC. These are marine habitats which are important for Bottlenose Dolphins that frequent these shores. Seven Natura 2000 sites are within a 5 km radius of our campsite with Natura 2000 being a European network of important ecological sites.

The listed Geosite, an area of scientific interest stretches from the campsite to Omey strand and  is quite impressive, providing an outstanding opportunity to see what happens deep inside the Earth's crust when magma rises into it & volcanoes erupt at the surface. These rock outcrops are some of the best examples seen anywhere in Europe.

The park has been co-existing alongside a traditional farm since the 1960s, which was the first certified organic farm in Connemara. Sustainability plays an important role in the day to day operations of both the park. Two important assessments that have been carried out comprising of ecological & sand/gravel aquifer assessments. Mitigation measures provided in these reports are crucial to the preservation  of the park both in terms of ecology & sustainability. In 2014 we a achieved a gold standard eco tourism award by EcoTourism Ireland. EcoTourism Ireland it one of the first eco labels in Europe to be recognized by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council. We achieved 'climate neutral status' in 2015. Independently accessed by myclimate, making us a first in 'climate neutral ' accommodation in Ireland.

Intrinsically green & sustainable, we're commited to have a positive impact on the environment & its something we're working on everyday.

Be it a motorhome, caravan or tent, you can be happy in the knowledge that your holiday is having a limited impact on the environment, this is green camping for the purist!

On the camp grounds you can enjoy an 'ecological', 'cluster free' , low impact camping environment with private campfires & the benefit of mud free, clean, dry pitches/plots guaranteed, even in extreme wet weather! It is also rare for mosquito/midget insects to appear on site due to its coastal location.

At Clifden ecoCamping & Caravanning Park the night sky is spectacular due to limited light pollution on the grounds and with our eco-friendly braizers you can star gaze along side a cosy fire with marshmallow cocktails on the beach or adjacent your plot, all adding to a romantic flare of excitement. Our location has all the attractions of 'wild camping' combined with the safety, comforts & family friendly nature that one expects from a small sustainable camp site.

The camp site has personal supervision & security. We have also implemented child protection policies/procedures which are overseen by a qualified member of staff, ensuring a safer camping environment for children.
